The Cruel Prince by Holly Black – Book Review

Hello All!!!

Welcome to my blog on a lovely Sunday. I am here with another Book Review. Finally it is here.

The Cruel Prince by Holly Black

Of course I want to be like them. They’re beautiful as blades forged in some divine fire. They will live forever.
And Cardan is even more beautiful than the rest. I hate him more than all the others. I hate him so much that sometimes when I look at him, I can hardly breathe.
Jude was seven when her parents were murdered and she and her two sisters were stolen away to live in the treacherous High Court of Faerie. Ten years later, Jude wants nothing more than to belong there, despite her mortality. But many of the fey despise humans. Especially Prince Cardan, the youngest and wickedest son of the High King.
To win a place at the Court, she must defy him–and face the consequences.
As Jude becomes more deeply embroiled in palace intrigues and deceptions, she discovers her own capacity for trickery and bloodshed. But as betrayal threatens to drown the Courts of Faerie in violence, Jude will need to risk her life in a dangerous alliance to save her sisters, and Faerie itself. (from Goodreads)

My Review

This book was in my TBR pile for way too long and at first I had to struggle a bit to start reading it. But finally, I understood that it is worth reading. There were such a lot of hype that I saw on social media, and that was the major drive that influenced me to get this book.

I had mixed emotions and ideas about the book, but finally I was able to put them together and write a review.

The plot was dark, dangerous, evil, vicious and cunning. We meet our protagonist of the story, Jude, whose parents are killed at the age of 7 by an unknown man and he takes her, and her sisters to live in the treacherous High Court of Faerie. She finds out that the man, who killed her parents was Madoc and the father of her elder sister Vivi. From there onwards her life begins and unfolds in front of the reader.

I must talk about Jude, being the female protagonist of the story, I find her character rather intriguing. She is intransigent, strong and dangerous. After loosing her parents, even though, she does not accept the fact that Madoc is her father, the bond and the love they have for each other is heart warming. No matter what happens, Madoc loves Jude as her own daughter, which creates a pang of jealousy in Cardan, the third and the cruelest Prince of the Great High King. My emotions towards Jude were rather detest. But onece I finished the story, I felt that she was the true hero of the story. Her character was created in such a way that you feel her confusions, emotions and hatred creating within her.

The Faerie world is wonderfully created and I do not have enough words the explain the atmosphere. The characters and the plot goes along hand-in-hand, really well and smoothly, to create the ultimate excitement and action of the story. When you start reading the story you feel that you are being carried away with the characters, into the darkest and the most dangerous world of the Faery. There are so many plot twists and actions, which keep the reader obsessed with the story, till the end.

The story starts with haterd and ends with love and in the end, I felt Jude won her righful place at the High Court of Faerie

My Rating

I hope you enjoyed!
