From Twinkle, with Love by Sandhya Menon – Book Review

Hello booklovers!!!

For the past few days I have been reading continuously, even though it was a bit busy. I was able to manage my time to read and complete a few books and here I am with another review.

If you have been with my blog for sometime, you might have noticed that I am a huge fan of Sandhya Menon. I read her first book, When Dimple met Rishi, which was super cute. Today is all about her second book, From Twinkle, with Love.

Aspiring filmmaker and wallflower Twinkle Mehra has stories she wants to tell and universes she wants to explore, if only the world would listen. So when fellow film geek Sahil Roy approaches her to direct a movie for the upcoming Summer Festival, Twinkle is all over it. The chance to publicly showcase her voice as a director? Dream come true. The fact that it gets her closer to her longtime crush, Neil Roy-a.k.a. Sahil’s twin brother? Dream come true x 2.

When mystery man N begins emailing her, Twinkle is sure it’s Neil, finally ready to begin their happily-ever-after. The only slightly inconvenient problem is that, in the course of movie-making, she’s fallen madly in love with the irresistibly adorkable Sahil.

Twinkle soon realizes that resistance is futile: The romance she’s got is not the one she’s scripted. But will it be enough?

Told through the letters Twinkle writes to her favorite female filmmakers, From Twinkle, with Love navigates big truths about friendship, family, and the unexpected places love can find you. (from Goodreads)

My Review

We meet our Indian-American protagonist, Twinkle an incredibly feminist, passionate film maker. Her struggles in pursuing her passion, her connections with her family and friends and last but not least her ultimate journey in finding her true love, is unvelied in the story.

The way Twinkle’s personality is being related to the reader is prodigious. Twinkle is shown as poor, when comparing herself, with her friends. She feels ashamed about it, at certain points, but what I felt was, she represents the majority of the teens that we come across in our society.

Then we meet Sahil, who has a crush on Twinkle since the age of 11. Sahil can be described as, a perfect boyfriend, due to his qualities and his mature way of thinking. He sees the depths of things, which others would not see. He is being completely supportive in achieving Twinkle’s passion.

I enjoyed the love (not the triangle, but the) square, which is the main attraction of the whole story. We have Twinkle, Sahil, Neil (Sahil’s Brother, Twinkle has a crush on him) and finally Twinkle’s secret admirer, N.

The story is being narrated in the form of texts, journal entries and emails, which is one unique way of making the readers attracted to the book. I feel that it is indeed an out of the box thinking. It is based mostly in the form of letters, written by Twinkle to famous movie directors.

In conclusion, it is a fun, adorable and sweet YA contemporary novel, that gives some powerful life lessons to the reader. It has that Sandhya Menon sparkle and cuteness in abundance.

I simply loved and enjoyed every bit of it, and would highly recommend it.
