A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens – Book Review

Hello Booklovers!!!

A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens

‘If I had my way, every idiot who goes around with Merry Christmas on his lips, would be boiled with his own pudding, and buried with a stake of holly through his heart. Merry Christmas? Bah humbug!’

Introduction and Afterword by Joe Wheeler
To bitter, miserly Ebenezer Scrooge, Christmas is just another day. But all that changes when the ghost of his long-dead business partner appears, warning Scrooge to change his ways before it’s too late.

Part of the Focus on the Family Great Stories collection, this edition features an in-depth introduction and discussion questions by Joe Wheeler to provide greater understanding for today’s reader. “A Christmas Carol” captures the heart of the holidays like no other novel.

My Review

“I will honour Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year. I will live in the Past, the Present, and the Future. The Spirits of all Three shall strive within me. I will not shut out the lessons that they teach!”
Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol

What a lovely Christmas read!!!

I listened to the audio book. It was great. Recently I have grown in fond of books by Charles Dickens. I am studying Great Expectations for my literature class, and I saw so many book bloggers reading this book. So, I thought that I should give it a try. I purchased the audio book, which is amazing.

The story brings out the true spirit of Christmas. Christmas is all about love, share and care. Everybody love to celebrate this special day, the day Jesus Christ was born, with their family and loved once. I really liked the character of Scrooge, and how he changed after meeting the three spirits of past, present and future. The other thing I loved about the story was, the descriptive language. Wow!! I loved how everything (specially Food!!) was described in the story. This short read definitely boosts up your holiday spirit.

Gives out a message to the readers about spending a meaningful Christmas. A wonderful read.

“God bless us, every one!”

To Hell in a Coach bag by M.J. Schiller – Book Review

Hello Book Lovers!!!

Welcome to another book review in my Blog!

Few months back, the author, M.J.Schiller contacted me to review her amazing book and thanking her for sending me a free copy of the eBook, in exchange for an honest review.

It is finally here and let’s head into the review.

Four Midwest Lunch Ladies Find Adventure On The Road in TO HELL IN A COACH BAG

A wacky widow, a wild divorcee, a frustrated wife and their mid-life hormonal boss are the “lunch ladies”. On a quest to find solace from life’s disappointments and recapture their youthful spirit, Dani, Sam, Alex and Max set out on a cross-country road trip.

As their sisterhood brings adventure and opens the door to new relationships, happiness could be just around the bend, or they may be heading to Hell in a Coach bag.

My Review

Life is full of good, bad, ups and downs. No matter what life offers you, there is always good friends to support you, and offer you a shoulder when you are in need. Friends are all about that, simply being there for one another.

This wonderful story unwinds around four lovely lunch ladies. Namely; Dani, Sam, Alex and Max. They have gone through different life experiences on relationships and carries different ideas and opinions. Dani’s father’s funeral and the road trip to Denver strengthens their bonds of friendship, and paves the path to new relationships and not forgetting fresh heart-break.

The story takes you along their adventures in life and how they care and be there for one another. Few of the important things that I noted about the story, is as follows;

  1. The plot was amazing and is filled with love, laughter and heartbreak.
  2. I loved the characters in the story since each of them have their own story to narrate to the reader.
  3. I felt that the book gives the reader an important message of what true friendship means. What it is like to be for someone who is in need of a shoulder to rely on. What it is really like to be truly cared for and loved for.
  4. It is indeed filled with romance and lots of love, which is another reason for me to enjoy the book immensely.
  5. Overall it was a such fun and enjoyable read that would definitely make you want to know more.

Schmuck the Buck: Santa’s Jewish Reindeer by EXO Books (Author), Karina Shor (Illustrations) – Book Review

Hello Everyone!!!

Welcome to another lovely, cold winter Sunday. Yet I am herewith another Book Review. This is another book that will definitely boost up your holiday spirits. I received a free copy of this amazing book by the Exo Books, in exchange for an honest review.

Let us head into the review;

Larry was just your regular caribou, who was cruelly excluded from his crew. He and his kin happened to be the sole Jewish reindeer in the North Pole. Larry was bullied and treated the worst way, until his plan saved one Christmas Day.

A contemporary satirical take on Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, Schmuck the Buck introduces Larry, a young Jewish reindeer. He overcomes his awkward and sometimes painful youth to save Christmas. His tale of acceptance and inclusion is sure to warm the hearts of anyone who loves Christmas, Hanukkah, or both. Sixty pages of vibrant illustrations bring his story to life. A unique modern addition to any holiday library. (from Goodreads)

My Review

For the past few days I have been totally busy with too many book reviews, and yesterday I was able to sit back and relax a while with the book that I received from Exo Books.  Well the best part about this book was that, it is an illustrated book!!!! I was super excited to start reading it.

The first thing that popped into my mind was that, it is such a cute and wonderful story that lifts up the Christmas spirit. You can just sit and enjoy the lovely illustrations, that speaks volumes about the story. It obviously has fewer words and more pictures, which is why I loved it so very much.

The way an important message of being loved, accepted and included is delivered through, wonderful illustrations, to the reader is commendable. This sixty page one-sit read is the ideal gift for anyone during this festive season. Big or small, anyone can truly enjoy the reason of the season with this amazing book. Had so much fun reading and relaxing with this amazing book.
