Dating the It guy by Krysten Lindsay Hager – Book Review

Hello Booklovers!!!!

Another book review is here. Thanking the author, Krysten Hager for sending me the free ebook, in exchange for an honest review.

Emme is a sophomore in high school who starts dating, Brendon Agretti, the popular senior who happens to be a senator’s son and well-known for his good looks. Emme feels out of her comfort zone in Brendon’s world and it doesn’t help that his picture perfect ex, Lauren, seems determined to get back into his life, along with every other girl who wants to be the future Mrs. Agretti. Emme is already conflicted due to the fact her last boyfriend cheated on her and her whole world is off kilter with her grandpa’s health issues. Life suddenly seems easier keeping Brendon away and relying on her crystals and horoscopes to guide her. Emme soon starts to realize she needs to focus less on the stars and more on her senses. Can Emme get over her insecurities and make her relationship work? Life sure is complicated when you’re dating the it guy.

My Review

After being cheated by her ex-boyfriend, Emma is reluctant to date another guy again. She meets Brendon, one of the most famous boys in her school. Lots of girls closely tail Brendon not to mention his ex-girlfriend. She has many insecurities in relationships. Emma goes through many things in her life. Her grandmother is hospitalized and her grandfather is showing symptoms of Dementia. She is very close to her grandparents and finds it difficult to cope with all these drama going on in her life.

Emma believes in numerology, horoscopes and crystals. She tries to find solutions to her problems in them. Finally she believes that all the stars are in her favour, since she finds her soul mate.

Emma is a wonderful girl, who loves her family. She goes thorough many ups and downs in her life. She is a vegan, believes in horoscopes, loves her family and pretty much concerns about good grades in class. I loved how the character of  Emma has been created. She speaks volumes about hidden problems, insecurities in life and dealing with them.

The story is wonderful and the characters too. There is a deeper meaning to the plot, and important life lessons for the readers.

Becoming by Michelle Obama – Audio Book Review

Hello Booklovers!!!

Today my post is going to be a special one. This would be my first ever review, of an audio book.

Let’s head into the review.

Becoming by Michelle Obama

In a life filled with meaning and accomplishment, Michelle Obama has emerged as one of the most iconic and compelling women of our era. As First Lady of the United States of America—the first African American to serve in that role—she helped create the most welcoming and inclusive White House in history, while also establishing herself as a powerful advocate for women and girls in the U.S. and around the world, dramatically changing the ways that families pursue healthier and more active lives, and standing with her husband as he led America through some of its most harrowing moments. Along the way, she showed us a few dance moves, crushed Carpool Karaoke, and raised two down-to-earth daughters under an unforgiving media glare.

In her memoir, a work of deep reflection and mesmerizing storytelling, Michelle Obama invites readers into her world, chronicling the experiences that have shaped her—from her childhood on the South Side of Chicago to her years as an executive balancing the demands of motherhood and work, to her time spent at the world’s most famous address. With unerring honesty and lively wit, she describes her triumphs and her disappointments, both public and private, telling her full story as she has lived it—in her own words and on her own terms. Warm, wise, and revelatory, Becoming is the deeply personal reckoning of a woman of soul and substance who has steadily defied expectations—and whose story inspires us to do the same.

My Review

“For me, becoming isn’t about arriving somewhere or achieving a certain aim. I see it instead as forward motion, a means of evolving, a way to reach continuously toward a better self. The journey doesn’t end.”
Michelle Obama, Becoming

As I mentioned before, this is my very first audio book. Normally I find audio books very hard to grasp because of the voice of the narrator. But Becoming is exceptional. Since the book is being narrated by Michelle by herself, it was like having a friendly chat with her. After reading the book I felt that, I have been knowing this wonderful woman for a long time.

Special characteristics of this audio book;

  • It was really great to listen to the story from the voice of Michelle herself.
  • The book is divided into three parts as Becoming me, Becoming us and Becoming more, which is a great way to share about her life to the reader with out any confusions.

It can be described as the story of Michelle Robinson becoming Michelle Obama. Michelle is a strong, humble and dedicated woman. From the very beginning we see that, she fights for what she thinks is, correct.

Born and raised in the south side of Chicago, she does not come from a wealthy family, but her family is supporting and loving, where I feel that it helped her to become who she is today. Being a straight A student, she graduated from Princeton University and Harvard Law School. After meeting Barack Obama her life starts to change. It is amazing to hear it from her own  voice. After their marriage Michelle becomes a working wife, where she is supported by a strong man, Barack Obama. I loved the part where they met for the first time and I was laughing to hear the way, Barack proposed to her.

Their two girls were born, she becomes a working mom. I simply loved how she cared for her family. Her husband running for the Presidential Candidacy, changes their lives into a different path. But her strong will helps Barack to face the upcoming challenges, and Michelle steps down from a bright career to take care of the family.

After Barack Obama being elected as the 44th President of United States, Michelle becomes the first African-American First Lady of the United States.

The part of the story after they moved to the white House, is what I most enjoyed listening to. The Obama family was so humble and the staff of the White House loved them. Michelle never forgot her humble beginning and treated their staff as family. Together Mr. & Mrs. Obama served the country and Michelle was the pillar of strength to Barack and their lovely daughters. They had ups and downs in their family, but together they reached the pinnacle of the world.

I adore this strong, ambitious and courages woman. My only hope is that I will be able to meet her one day!  (Missing them already, even though I am not from the USA!!! I just adore the Obama family!)

My Rating

152-1529188_intuit-proadvisor-transparent-background-five-stars.png 5/5 (stars) – Tremendous, I like it very much

Such an inspirational book, that every woman should listen to. Highly recommend it!

“Your story is what you have, what you will always have. It is something to own.”
Michelle Obama, Becoming

Ladies out there, let us become the best version of ourselves and reach for the stars. Empower each other and support each other, and move forward for a better tomorrow.

In Over Her Head : Lights, Camera, Anxiety (The Cecily Taylor Series #2) By Krysten Lindsay Hager – Book Review

Hello Booklovers!!!

Foe today’s book review, I thank the author, Krysten Lindsay Hager for sending me a free copy of the ebook, in exchange for a honest review. I read the first book of this series and fell in love with the story, so when Krysten emailed me to ask, if I could read and review the second book, I was more than happy to do it.

You can read my review of the first book of the series by simply clicking here

Without further a do, let us head into the review.

Cecily wants a big life, but can she handle it?

Cecily feels like she has it all: great best friends, the beginnings of a career as a model/actress, and she’s dating her favorite singer, Andrew Holiday. Then Cecily’s best friend Lila begins to ditch her every time Lila’s boyfriend calls. Cecily feels lost, but she and Andrew begin connecting more and she’s never been in a relationship where she felt so understood. Andrew even begins to confide in her about his anxiety. Soon Cecily experiences her own anxiety on a magazine photo shoot, but she manages to impress the magazine staff. Just when it seems like all her dreams are coming true, everything comes crashing down when a photo of Andrew with another girl appears online. He swears nothing happened, but Cecily is crushed. She feels like she’s lost two of the people closest to her.

Was her perfect relationship real or was she in over her head?

My Review

As I mentioned before, I have read the very first book of this series. Therefore I did not hesitate to read the second one. This is what made me the book so special to me;

  1. The Characters – Specially the character of Andrew, made me want him as my boyfriend 🙂 😉 He is understanding and he is the type of boyfriend, every girl wishes for.
  2. The story deal with a few deep topics, such as anxiety, dealing with anxiety and relationships at a deeper level.
  3. Completely romantic and cute, full of love and drama.
  4. Speaks to the hearts of the reader, I feel specially to the young once (not forgetting not so young once, like myself 🙂 )
  5. The  book can be called as a clean young adult book.
  6. It is well related with the first book, but it can be read as a stand alone too.

I told Krysten, that I will need more time to read this book, since my schedule is way too busy, but here I am finished reading the book in a couple of days. It was that nice and sweet. Helped me to forget some problems that I was facing, and allowed me to get myself buried in the cute love story of Cecily and Andrew.
