Today my post is going to be a special one. This would be my first ever review, of an audio book.
Let’s head into the review.
Becoming by Michelle Obama
In a life filled with meaning and accomplishment, Michelle Obama has emerged as one of the most iconic and compelling women of our era. As First Lady of the United States of America—the first African American to serve in that role—she helped create the most welcoming and inclusive White House in history, while also establishing herself as a powerful advocate for women and girls in the U.S. and around the world, dramatically changing the ways that families pursue healthier and more active lives, and standing with her husband as he led America through some of its most harrowing moments. Along the way, she showed us a few dance moves, crushed Carpool Karaoke, and raised two down-to-earth daughters under an unforgiving media glare.
In her memoir, a work of deep reflection and mesmerizing storytelling, Michelle Obama invites readers into her world, chronicling the experiences that have shaped her—from her childhood on the South Side of Chicago to her years as an executive balancing the demands of motherhood and work, to her time spent at the world’s most famous address. With unerring honesty and lively wit, she describes her triumphs and her disappointments, both public and private, telling her full story as she has lived it—in her own words and on her own terms. Warm, wise, and revelatory, Becoming is the deeply personal reckoning of a woman of soul and substance who has steadily defied expectations—and whose story inspires us to do the same.
“For me, becoming isn’t about arriving somewhere or achieving a certain aim. I see it instead as forward motion, a means of evolving, a way to reach continuously toward a better self. The journey doesn’t end.”
As I mentioned before, this is my very first audio book. Normally I find audio books very hard to grasp because of the voice of the narrator. But Becoming is exceptional. Since the book is being narrated by Michelle by herself, it was like having a friendly chat with her. After reading the book I felt that, I have been knowing this wonderful woman for a long time.
Special characteristics of this audio book;
- It was really great to listen to the story from the voice of Michelle herself.
- The book is divided into three parts as Becoming me, Becoming us and Becoming more, which is a great way to share about her life to the reader with out any confusions.
It can be described as the story of Michelle Robinson becoming Michelle Obama. Michelle is a strong, humble and dedicated woman. From the very beginning we see that, she fights for what she thinks is, correct.
Born and raised in the south side of Chicago, she does not come from a wealthy family, but her family is supporting and loving, where I feel that it helped her to become who she is today. Being a straight A student, she graduated from Princeton University and Harvard Law School. After meeting Barack Obama her life starts to change. It is amazing to hear it from her own voice. After their marriage Michelle becomes a working wife, where she is supported by a strong man, Barack Obama. I loved the part where they met for the first time and I was laughing to hear the way, Barack proposed to her.
Their two girls were born, she becomes a working mom. I simply loved how she cared for her family. Her husband running for the Presidential Candidacy, changes their lives into a different path. But her strong will helps Barack to face the upcoming challenges, and Michelle steps down from a bright career to take care of the family.
After Barack Obama being elected as the 44th President of United States, Michelle becomes the first African-American First Lady of the United States.
The part of the story after they moved to the white House, is what I most enjoyed listening to. The Obama family was so humble and the staff of the White House loved them. Michelle never forgot her humble beginning and treated their staff as family. Together Mr. & Mrs. Obama served the country and Michelle was the pillar of strength to Barack and their lovely daughters. They had ups and downs in their family, but together they reached the pinnacle of the world.
I adore this strong, ambitious and courages woman. My only hope is that I will be able to meet her one day! (Missing them already, even though I am not from the USA!!! I just adore the Obama family!)
5/5 (stars) – Tremendous, I like it very much
Such an inspirational book, that every woman should listen to. Highly recommend it!
“Your story is what you have, what you will always have. It is something to own.”
Ladies out there, let us become the best version of ourselves and reach for the stars. Empower each other and support each other, and move forward for a better tomorrow.
Until next post,
