Our Stop by Laura Jane Williams – Book Review

It is #quarantineandchill at home time, where we are supporting our countries by staying indoors. There is basically no work and essentials goods are bought to your homes, so here we are doing our duty and being responsible. After a long time this has become a good time for me to sit back and relax, to read and to keep in touch with my blogging community.

So as you may already know, I have been addicted to audible lately and 90% books are audio, and I read only a very less number of physical books. I was able to complete a few books and the last one I read was Our Stop by Laura Jane Williams.

Here is my review;

Nadia gets the 7.30 train every morning without fail. Well, except if she oversleeps or wakes up at her friend Emma’s after too much wine.

Daniel really does get the 7.30 train every morning, which is easy because he hasn’t been able to sleep properly since his dad died.

One morning, Nadia’s eye catches sight of a post in the daily paper:

To the cute girl with the coffee stains on her dress. I’m the guy who’s always standing near the doors… Drink sometime?

So begins a not-quite-romance of near-misses, true love, and the power of the written word.

My Review

I had no idea about this book but I loved the cover  image. I know they say, never to judge a book by its cover, but I am so glad I did. It was a pretty wonderful and cute romantic story. We meet the two main characters of the story, Nadia and Daniel. Each chapter is dedicated and written from the point of view of, either Nadia or Daniel and the story flows from one person to the other.

Nadia, a twenty nine year old woman, after having a few bad relationships, is looking for the love of her life. Daniel on the other hand is a young man who is waiting to meet his love but lacks confidence. They both travel in the 7.30 train, and the story is about how their love life begins with this train journey.

It was such a great read and what I enjoyed most about this story is that, how they sometimes narrowly miss their opportunity to meet each other. It was witty, romantic and a wonderful read.

The audio book was amazing and I could not stop listening to it. The narration was wonderfully done by the team of narrators.

Magnificent Mrs. Mayhew by Milly Johnson

Hello Booklovers!!!

Magnificent Mrs. Mayhew by Milly Johnson

Sophie Mayhew looks like she has the perfect life. Wife of rising political star John F Mayhew, a man who is one step away from the top job in the government, her glamour matches his looks, power, breeding and money. But John has made some stupid mistakes along the way, some of which are threatening to emerge. Still, all this can still be swept under the carpet as long as Sophie ‘the trophy’ plays her part in front of the cameras.

But the words that come out of Sophie’s mouth one morning on the doorstep of their country house are not the words the spin doctors put in there.  Bursting out of the restrictive mould she has been in since birth, Sophie flees to a place that was special to her as a child, a small village on the coast where she intends to be alone.

But once there, she finds she becomes part of a community that warms her soul and makes her feel as if she is breathing properly for the first time. Sophie knows she won’t be left in peace for long. Now she must decide: where does her real future lie?

My Review

I was listening to the audio book, well it was a hit. I could not stop listening to it, and had several sleepless nights to reach to the end of the story. It was that amazing.

I enjoyed the story from the very beginning until the end. The way the story was narrated in the audio book, was the main reason that I really  wanted to listen to it. This is what I felt about the story. I thought I should discuss a bit about the two main characters in the story.

Sophie Mayhew

  1. I found her as a rather wonderful and fascinating character.
  2. She always enjoyed being herself, but she was forced by her husband to become someone completely different.
  3. She was used by her husband as “Sophie the Trophy”, which was sad.
  4. She is a loving and warm character, that concerns about the happiness of the others.
  5. Her drive to achieve her passions are wonderful and finally she becomes the person, she really wanted to be.
  6. Her courage to stand up for herself really blows up the mind of the reader.

John Mayhew

  1. Not the type of a husband that anyone woman would ever wish for.
  2. I felt that he is a selfish jerk. (but I really felt it :))
  3. He is completely focused on his political life, and would do anything to protect his alliances and political position.
  4. He has no plans to have his own family life and keeps on cheating to Sophie.
  5. Felt so bad for the way he controlled the life of Sophie, and the way he swore on the name of their dead baby son.
  6. He finally accepts the defeat (way to go, girl power!!!)
  7. I really hated him, when he was trying to send Sophie to a Asylum.

It was such a warm and cozy story, that took my heart. I felt that story speaks volumes about women who are struggling to have a happy marriage life. I enjoyed the setting of the story. It was very easy to visualize the mental images when listening to the audio book. Everything was perfectly described. In love with the plot and Sophie. It was like reading about a good friend. Well written and such an enjoyable read!!! Great work from the author.
