100 Ways to Live as an Optimist in a Pessimistic World by Katherine Swarts – Book Review

On this lovely Sunday, I am bringing you another book review. First I must thank the author, Kristine Swarts for sending me an eARC copy of the book, in exchange for an honest review.

It was such a wonderful read that would definitely give so many positive aspects, in to your life. This is my review;

Want to live happier and healthier, regularly expecting and seeing good in life? 100 Ways to Live as an Optimist in a Pessimistic World explains how to change your attitude—and influence your world in the optimistic direction—by practicing little life hacks that are simple and even fun.

My Review

The book is all about being positive in a world where everything falls off to be negative. From the moment you wake up in the morning, until the time you head in to bed at night, you go through so much. Your emotions are like roller-coaster. At one point you are happy and at the other you are all sad and upset and ready to break-down.

Complaining constantly has become a part of our lives. We complaint almost about every thing. We complaint for waking up late, for having traffic on the road, for not having enough sugar in your coffee, for the pair of shoes that you can’t afford to buy in the shoe shop etc. We human beings, have got so used to it that we don’t seriously feel how much bad impact that it could bring in to our lives.

If we wake up a bit more early, and most of all we should be considering our selves as completely privileged to open our eyes in the morning, considering that some people, just die in their sleep. We should thank God for giving us another day to live. Therefore we have to make the most of it.

As I mentioned earlier, we should be grateful for everything that we have, and make the most of it. With so many things going around us, and so many people and relationships tangled in our lives, it is rather difficult to be optimistic. We are all living in this competitive world and we forget to concentrate on all the minor details and things happening around us. The only thing that matters the most is all the complaints and problems that we face. By doing this, we forget to focus on simple things in life.

This book is ideal for all of us, no matter in which age you are. It gives you deeper insight of our lives and focuses on so many tiny details, that most of the time we tend to ignore. After reading the book, I felt that how happy we could be, when we focus on these minor aspects of life. Here are 10 things (out of 100) that I found rather interesting;

  1. Make a list of things you’re grateful for.
  2. Take time to notice tiny beauties.
  3. Make a thirty-day vow, to write down ten blessings for every time you complain.
  4. Set a goal of getting a smile from everyone you talk today.
  5. Spread positive energy.
  6. Don’t eat breakfast, or even drink coffee, while driving. Make time to concentrate on savoring your food.
  7. Do something else creative.
  8. Read a biography of the person you most admire, highlighting every time they had to get up and try again.
  9. Keep working toward your dreams no matter what.
  10. Make up your mind that you will stay positive. Just saying it works wonders.


These are just random 10 facts that I found rather fascinating, remember there are another 90 more amazing things that you can learn from this book. I feel that it is a must read for every one. This amazing self-help book would definitely help you to be optimistic in this pessimistic world

My Review

Who is a bawse?

A person who exudes confidence, hustles relentlessly, reaches for goals and smiles genuinely because he or she has fought through it all and made it out the other side.



Last year I discovered the YouTube channel of Lilly Singh, which completely inspired me. That was the fact, which was behind, me buying her book – How to be a Bawse

I still can remember the day I received the book via mail, I was too excited to do anything else or even worst, I could not concentrate on my work.

I have taken double the time to complete this book, (which is longer time than any other book) due to the following reasons,

  1. I really wanted to grasp the idea of every single word written in the book.
  2. I was focusing more on the idea that Lilly was trying to give to the reader, so I re-read some chapters, just to make sure that I was well aware of the idea.

The book includes 4 parts,

  • Part 1 – Master your mind
  • Part 2 – Hustle Harder
  • Part 3 – Make heads turn
  • Part 4 – Be a Unicorn

Each section has its own unique set of subtopics, which will help you to reach the ultimate goal of becoming a #bawse

The book gives great motivation and inspiration to the reader. I am not a fan of motivational and self-help books, but this was totally out of that situation. I enjoyed her free way if thinking and writing style.

A few inspiring and motivating things that I discovered from the book;

  1. Controlling and maintaining your emotions.
  2. Exercising self-control.
  3. Be nice to people.
  4. Be grateful to all what you have.
  5. Promote what you love.

This book has indeed helped me to stay motivated and be focused on reaching my goals.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone as a wonderful motivational and self-help book. It is amazing and I definitely a;m going to re-read it again and again until the day that I reach my goals in life. This will be my mantra and guidance.
