But Kate has a secret: her husband is having an affair. And a week away might just be the perfect opportunity to get the proof she needs – to catch him in the act once and for all. Because she suspects the other woman is one of her two best friends.

One of them is working against her, willing to sacrifice years of friendship to destroy her family. But which one? As Kate closes in on the truth in the stifling Mediterranean heat, she realises too late that the stakes are far higher than she ever imagined . . .

Because someone in the villa may be prepared to kill to keep their secret hidden.

When he invites her to move into his beautiful home with its sprawling garden for her boys, Darcy doesn’t hesitate.

But as Darcy is settling in, she receives a bunch of flowers with a chilling message. George says they’re from an obsessed ex-girlfriend, Opal, and days later Opal turns up at Darcy’s son’s football match. Synopsis

When Sheriff Yolanda Demetriou receives boxes of notebooks, she has no idea of the horrors that lie ahead. Will she be able to piece together the information and locate the house where childhood dreams become nightmares? Or will she be too late to save an abducted girl?

In this dark psychological thriller, Yolanda and her team embark on a hunt for a monster, following maddeningly sparse clues in a race to solve a heartless crime.

My Review

Two young boys find boxes full of notebooks and brings them up to the sheriff, Yolanda Demetriou , where she calls up her team for investigation. Yolanda has no idea where this will lead to or who is behind this. She later learns that a young girl has been abducted and held hidden by a man called Mr. Whiskers. With no proper names or locations and very little information, Yolanda begins her investigation with the help of FBI to find the missing girl. since they believed she is still alive.

The story was such a thriller and most importantly a short read. It just took me one whole day (which is today :)) to complete it. The story gripped me from the beginning and I was really interested to know, what will happen next. When I started reading, I did not know what to expect. I must say, that highly doubted whether, Yolanda will be able to save this girl. But, she finally she did.

It was wonderfully written and fantastic. The authors writing ability and the story line keeps the reader hooked to the story. There was this strange eeriness in the story which becomes, the wow factor of the whole story.

I enjoyed the way the story was written. In between each chapter, there was an extraction from a page from one of the notebooks the little girl has written. The reader feels great wave of emotions towards the little girl. As I mentioned earlier, I was excited and enthralled from the first page till the last.

I would highly recommend this book to all the book lovers, who are looking for a light but dark read.

(from Goodreads)

My Review

I did not have the slightest idea about the book, when I first started to read it. But, once I started, I could not stop reading it. Me being a slow reader, never bothered me in reading this book. It took me only 4 days to complete this wonderful book.

The story is part paranormal and part mystery. The story flows within 6 months after Claire, a middle-aged woman bought an age-old decaying mansion in an Island.

It was such an enjoyable read and there were two aspects that made me really interested in reading.

  1. The history of the past owners of the house
  2. How Claire started to re-build the mansion.

The story plot was crafted in such a way, that it obviously attracts the attention of the reader. It arouses the curiosity of the reader, and keeps them hooked on until the end.

The story also highlights the protagonist, Clair’s complex connections with her parents and her aunt, which ultimately leads to the latter part of the story, where she takes a giant step in solving the problems that she faces.

Strong qualities of a woman is brought into the attention of the reader through the protagonist, Clair, because she definitely is a fighter. Her strong will-power to face life no matter how hard it becomes, shows the power of a woman. Claire’s intention to protect the old mansion and her love for history is yet another aspect that proves her strength and courage.

The book unquestionably has the wow factor that thrills the reader. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves reading mystery books.
